ITSM Employees To See a Tough Road Ahead

According to SysAid’s study in 2019, 84% of respondents believed that IT would get more challenging over the next three years. In addition to the existing challenges, the global pandemic has further impacted the IT service desk work environment negatively, emphasizing it as a prominent area of concern. Industry experts believe that wellbeing issues can affect you no matter your ITSM role. In this article at ITSM Tools, Stephen Mann shares the highlights of the ‘Wellbeing in IT’ survey. What does the survey reveal?

Key Findings of the Survey

  • 23% of the survey sample feel that their efforts aren’t recognized, and 53% of respondents believe their work is recognized, but it isn’t enough. Therefore, a total of 76% of survey respondents feel undervalued in their jobs.
  • 52% of respondents stated that working in IT has adversely affected their wellbeing to some extent, and 24% of survey respondents feel that their employers or managers don’t have suitable mechanisms for preventing and helping employee wellbeing issues.
  • 60% prefer working from home, although just over a third of these need to return to office post-COVID. 17% have no preferences concerning office-based working or home working.

What Does This Mean?

Working from home has many benefits for employees, such as the ability to focus, a better work-life balance, and no stressful commute. In fact, the current situation is paving the way for increased collaboration. However, the ITSM sector still looks to have a severe issue with employee wellbeing. The pandemic has amplified the existing problems with pressures and uncertainty. Some managers’ and organizations’ inability to identify and deal with the wellness-related issue has made the ITSM sector worse for the employees.
