Also known as decomp, the diagram maps out and develops a correlation between the project tasks that rely on each other. What’s the Correlation?
The process decomposition diagram highlights multiple processes under a lead procedure. Here is a list of guidelines to keep in mind while following the project development route:
- If you divide the lead process, you must turn it into a minimum of two sub-functions. Otherwise, your approach would not work efficiently.
- All the sub-processes must work together and identify the actions of the lead one.
Here are some other instances when the process decomposition diagram is applicable:
- An elaborate project that needs a massive effort to document significant steps
- If you need stakeholder’s validation to capture essential processes and phases
- A process to interact via diagram structure with the stakeholders, only if they are acquainted with it
How to Establish it?
The decomp diagram is useful for large-scale projects as it enables the users to recheck and repeat the processes a couple of times. It is highly effective for stakeholders to identify the missing elements and direct teams to refine the whole effort. Your project team must remain flexible to discuss, identify, and develop the decomposition program. Follow these three steps to form a decomp:
- Top-Down Approach: Analyze the top-level constraints observed in the project scope and initiate steps to avert them with the stakeholders. Keep forestalling them until you find a way to reduce inconsistencies in the projects.
- Bottom-Up Approach: Outline the tasks that require detailed evaluation and locate a joint alliance. Now, search for an approach to determine the project’s smooth progress and the ideal way to achieve desired goals. However, ensure that you do not miss any step in the project progress.
- Event-Driven: Evaluate all the actions causing a series of missteps or additional tasks. Document a rough draft of the process decomposition diagram and get it validated with the stakeholders.
Once the diagram is ready following either of the above steps, you must classify the qualities and other project aspects to make it legitimate for future references.
