Here’re Practices That Sabotage Your IT Leadership Skills

As an IT business leader, you may struggle with a desire to control everything. You may find it challenging to trust others with critical decisions and tasks. However, 2020 has forced many CIOs to re-evaluate their conventional ideas, get rid of strategies and practices that aren’t leading to organizations’ success, and embrace change. In this article at The Enterprisers Project, Grant Halloran explains some practices that CIOs must let go of for the foreseeable future.

Habits You Must Let Go Of

The Annual Plan

“Leaders across the organization should be evaluating plans, not by the traditional annual cadence but monthly and even weekly,” explains Grant. Business leaders must implement a continuous planning approach to optimize business performance. Agility in predicting and responding to change is a sign of an enterprise that knows how to run its business efficiently in modern times. CIOs must be receptive to continuous feedback that promotes constant growth. They must also know the problems, issues, and opportunities within teams and the organization.

Caution

Pandemic has forced tech leaders to embrace digital transformation and automate back-office operations. There is no longer room to be cautious. Speed is essential, and without it, organizations will be left behind. CIOs must now focus on the digital customer journey, critical paths, and corporate culture that reflect an accelerated timeline. Further, to make gains in digital transformation possible, CIOs must implement continuous analysis and planning. As a tech leader, you must be armed with cloud technology so that you can rapidly push forward change in your organization.

Focus on Competitors

Following the competitors in your business line will distract you away from what your organization needs. Therefore, you must focus only on your customer and employee satisfaction. Listen to your clients, stakeholders, shareholders, and employees carefully and with sympathy. Address their grievances with new programs, solutions, and policies. Studies have revealed that customer-centric companies are 60 percent more profitable than companies that don’t focus on customers.
