NASA brainpower will soon start making a big difference in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. NASA engineers developed the VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally) device to free up the US’s limited supply of traditional ventilators. VITAL has a flexible design that can be utilized in temporary field hospitals—hotels and convention centers—to deal with patients suffering from COVID-19. Furthermore, the space agency plans to offer a free license for the new ventilator and is currently reaching out to potential manufacturing partners in the private medical sector.
