Are you an Apple user? Chances are your devices—iPhones, iPads, or Mac systems—might be scanned for ‘illegal content’. Any suspicious content will be sent to U.S. law enforcement agencies. The company expects that this step will stop social injustices against kids. However, privacy supporters believe that this will give various companies a loophole to spy on their users and bypass customer data privacy policies. Before you begin speculating, DW News reporter Chelsea Delaney clarifies Apple’s stance on scanning users’ devices. The scanning software will be integrated into existing iPhones by year-end. It will itemize photos using numbers. Before uploading the images to iCloud, the software will check if any of these numbered images match reported photos. The matched photos will then be sent to the government for further evaluation. Learn more about it in this video.
