China launched the core part of its new space station, called ‘Tiangong,’ which means heavenly palace. A modular space station, Tiangong, will be in working condition by the end of 2022. The international space station is supposed to retire by 2024, and if it does, Tiangong will be the only permanent working space station in low earth orbit. Subsequently, Chinese astronauts did not have access to better resources, which is one of the main reasons why Tiangong came into existence. The international space station has 16 modules, whereas Tiangong has only one in its orbit. It can accommodate a maximum number of 3 astronauts in comparison to 16 in the international space station.
