Robots are considered to be rigid, robust, and metallic in their shape and texture. However, scientists have begun to devise a new form of robot that is flexible and soft. Robotic textiles are an interesting example of this new genre of robotics technology, where textiles can be used as a soft fabric or a solid but multi-layered material. Robotic fabrics are primarily any fabric that has both sensing and actuation components. The sensing component determines the surrounding, weather, and other external aspects, whereas the actuation component controls the movement of the fabric. Along with the shape-changing fashion styles of NASA’s futuristic space suits, robotics technology can prove to be of great help for people with mobility issues.
