As organizations move to the cloud, IT leaders must adopt a modern approach to managing cloud resources. According to various studies, cloud computing is faster, secure, and affordable when compared to private and on-premises infrastructure. However, there are several challenges to achieving effective cloud management. In this article at ITProPortal, Sead Fadilpašić explains some significant cloud management challenges that IT leaders face.
What Do Studies Reveal?
According to a report from technology intelligence firm Snow Software, the rise in cybersecurity threats is one of the substantial cloud management challenges that IT leaders face. Polling more than 500 IT leaders from UK and US businesses, the survey identified that the cloud is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution; instead, it is one of the components in IT management.
Some of the other cloud management challenges include cloud costs, migration, and meeting governance and compliance requirements. Additionally, in many organizations, tech leaders find it challenging to retain resources with the right skill set to effectively manage and implement the cloud.
Understanding Cloud Usage
“Despite the challenges, the cloud has still been of great help to these organizations, especially during the pandemic,” says Fadilpašić. In the previous year, over 70% of the IT leaders increased their overall cloud spending and increased the use of public cloud platforms. Nearly 46% of leaders found the cloud critical to their operations during the outbreak of COVID-19.
Nearly 17% consider cloud computing conducive to developing, testing, and launching products and services. Over 17% of respondents revealed that they utilized cloud computing for its in-built and tested cybersecurity features. At the same time, 12% reported using cloud computing only for backup and data storage.
