Is RPA Affected by Drastic Digital Transformation?

Robotic process automation (RPA) has been gaining a lot of popularity lately. Quite a good number of IT and technology companies are making groundbreaking innovations in the automation department. The process of automating organizational divisions began early in the pandemic and has led to several elements such as chatbots, machine learning, robotic process automation, and low-code tools, to name a few. In her article for InformationWeek, Jessica Davies talks about robotic process automation and how it has been affected by the swift transformation in the digital spheres.

Understanding Automation Fabric

Forrester analyst Leslie Joseph defines automation fabric as a procedure to make the technology efficiently help organizations. It enables companies to deal with labor shortages and increases production. Considering automation as a booming sector in the technology industry, many big tech companies are striving to gain control of automation and RPA. Salesforce, for instance, had acquired Servicetrace RPA, and Microsoft has acquired Softmotive. Recently, US private equity firm Vista Equity that owns infrastructure and business intelligence company TIBCO has announced acquiring British RPA firm Blue Prism. TIBCO’s CEO Dan Streetman stated that this deal would help their existing base of customers to rejuvenate the future of intelligent automation.

Predicting the Future

Experts believe the rise of the automation industry cannot be attributed to only the pandemic. Had the pandemic not existed, automation would have gotten introduced in the companies globally anyway. Organizations have been working on their RPA setups for the past 4-5 years. However, companies are looking for something beyond RPA that can resolve complex technical processes and be client-specific. To work on that, some tech vendors have started working on RPA augmentation by adding different technological tools that seem like the next logical step ahead of RPA implementations.
